A US Navy Nuclear Attack Submarine Rolled 85 Degrees After Hitting a Navy Amphibious Transport Dock in the Strait of Hormuz Back in 2009

At 12:58 a.m. on March 20, 2009, the nuclear attack submarine USS Hartford struck the amphibious transport dock USS New Orleans in the Strait of Hormuz. The collision raked Hartford's sail along the larger ship's hull and rolled the submarine roughly 85 degrees, nearly onto its side. Fifteen sailors were injured and both periscopes stopped working.
