Oscar-Nominated Actress Dies By Euthanasia
Barbara Barrie, an Oscar-nominated actress, was euthanized in her home in Manhattan after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.Barrie died at the age of 95, her daughter Jane Harnick confirmed. The actress was nominated for an Oscar in the best supporting actress category for her role in “Breaking Away” (1979), her most popular film. The comedy film follows a group of teens navigating life after graduating high school. The film, which also starred Dennis Quaid, won the Oscar that year for best original screenplay.Barrie reprised that same role in a spinoff TV show and was nominated for an Emmy in 1981.Barrie also won a Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1964 for her performance as Julie in “One Potato, Two Potato,” as Page Six noted.
