Valley ICE officer pleads not guilty to charges he lied to the FBI about nonfatal Minneapolis shooting
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A federal immigration officer is pleading not guilty to federal charges that he lied to the FBI about being attacked before he shot and wounded a Venezuelan man during the immigration crackdown in Minneapolis. Christian Castro entered his plea Friday before a U.S. magistrate judge. Prosecutors say Castro falsely told investigators he had been attacked with a broom and a shovel before he shot Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in January. He also faces state assault charges in the shooting. Castro's court proceedings in Minnesota follow months of legal and political battles over whether he would be extradited from his home state of Texas.
